Why is my boiler making noises?
The most common cause of boiler kettling tends to be an accumulation of limescale on the boiler’s heat exchanger. As a result of this, water can become trapped in the boiler’s heat exchanger which then makes it overheat, generate steam and expand. The whistling noise is a consequence of this process.
Should I turn my boiler off at night?

Then the boiler is on all the time and this continues when programmer timer turns off CH mode. In this state and with hot water turned off at the programmer, there is zero volts on the white wire.

Can a stuck zone valve cause a boiler to fire?
A stuck microswitch in a zone valve can cause a boiler to fire continuously however, a zone valve actuator can only open if the programmer is enabled for heating or hot water and the respective thermostat is calling for heating/hot water.
Is the boiler still running even with the programmer off?

How does the programmer work on a combi boiler?
The programmer tells the boiler when to heat hot water only, the radiators only or both together. A combi boiler does not have a hot water storage tank – it heats the water for the sink / bath etc. on demand. When you turn a hot water tap on, the boiler fires & heats the water to that tap and stops heating the water when the tap is turned off.
When do you turn on the boiler is there no hot water?
You need about 15 minutes to realise that there is no heating or hot water after you have turned on the boiler. If that happens, then it’s more than just bad luck on a chilly Monday morning. Something is not quite right with it.
