Why do I have no power to my boiler?

Why do I have no power to my boiler?

To stop damaging electrical components in your boiler, manufacturers fit them with a fuse. If there’s a surge of power, the fuse has likely blown, and this will cause your boiler to have no power. Your boiler won’t turn on without a functioning fuse. Change the fuse, and you should get power back to your boiler.

Where is my boiler fuse?

If you don’t know where your fuse board is, you can look near the entrance of your property. They’re usually installed quite high up, like this one in the picture. If it’s not there, it’s usually in the cupboard under the stairs. Open the flap and look for a fuse pointing down in the off position.

Can a power cut damage my boiler?

During a power cut, your gas central heating system won’t work – although gas is used to heat water for the taps and radiators, the boiler still requires electricity to run. (Gas fires and gas cooker hot plates will not usually be affected by a power cut).

What fuse does my boiler need?

A typical fuse to replace this is either a 3 amp or a 5 amp fuse. You should not be using a 13 amp fuse as this will not protect the electrical components within your boiler and central heating system controls.

What happens if you turn off the electric in an oil fired hot water boiler?

Watch out: oil or gas fired hot water or steam heating equipment may fail to shut down even if electrical power to the equipment is turned off. We found this situation at an old oil fired heating boiler in Poughkeepsie, New York. Even after turning electrical power off we observed that a smoky flame continued indefinitely at the oil burner.

What should I do if I have no power to my boiler?

Most boilers have at least one built in fuse. Others can have 3 or 4. If you have no power to your boiler and have tried the first 2 checks, the next thing to do is to check the boiler’s internal fuses. As a homeowner, this check – and all the other checks except 1 & 2 – are not safe for you to do.

When to turn off oil and gas power?

The heating equipment should STOP immediately. In an emergency, if turning off electrical power does not stop an oil or gas fired heating unit, and provided that you can safely approach the unit (there is no fire or smoke) you should turn off both electrical power AND the fuel supply to the equipment.

Why is my gas boiler not working properly?

There are a variety of reasons why your boiler may not be working; common examples include the boiler pressure being too low or too high, a power cut, gas supply issues, a faulty pilot light, a frozen condensate pipe, faulty internal components or a more complex issue.

Why is my oil tank not getting to my boiler?

(I have to do it my boiler when I forget to have the tank filled). Read the manual regarding this. If it’s not an air lock, which it almost certainly is, it could be the fire valve, or a blocked filter, or a dodgy tiger loop (if fitted).
