What happens if you leave the hose on with nozzle?
It is certainly OK to turn off the water at the end of a hose for short periods. If you leave it on this way for long periods you are stressing the hose which could lead to a ruptured hose when you are not around. This could lead to a waste of water or to water damage if the hose sprays on something.
What happens if you leave a water hose connected?
A friend of mine insists that leaving hoses connected causes interior water pipes to freeze and burst even if the valve is closed. The 1998 article appears to support that view. I think the laws of physics do not support that view.
Can you leave an outside faucet on with a hose attached?
Yes! Water that remains in the hose and in the faucet itself will expand as the water gets frozen; this causes the water to expand and damage the pipes that connect to that exterior faucet. That actually happened to someone I know this past December.
Is it dangerous to leave a hose spigot on with no water?
The spigot is constantly on, but for about 12 hours a day the timer is closed and no water is flowing through. Is there a danger of pressure buildup from leaving the faucet on with nowhere for it to go?
Is it OK to leave an outside water line open?
Yes, you should always turn off your outside water line, remove the hose and leave the outside faucet open to drain it, if not you stand a chance of you’re inside water line freezing and bursting. Even if you have an outside Frost Proof faucet, you still need to remove the hose!
