The filling loop is where water enters the system from the mains, and consists of two valves. When both valves are open, the system lets more water in, and the pressure rises. Make sure they are both closed – your system circulates its water, and rarely needs topping up.
Should boiler filling loop be left open?

My reason for also shutting off the boiler feed is to keep the boiler water from back feeding into the domestic due to pressure in the expansion tank. Yes, there is a check-valve but I’m pretty sure it isn’t 100% perfect. You may need a real backflow preventer.
Why did my boiler never pop the relief valve?
This boiler ran, but it was losing water up the chimney. The rate of loss was such that the system pressure never got low enough to cause the automatic feeder to feed. The steam that was forming inside the boiler kept the pressure up. But the pressure never went high enough to pop the relief valve either.
