How much water should be in brine tank during regeneration?
Wet Brine Tanks: That works out to about 15-25 cm (6-10 inches) of water. The water will be in your tank even in between regeneration times or cycles. You may not see the water if your salt level is higher than your water level.
What happens if there is too little water in the brine tank?
If too little water enters the salt tank or brine tank the water softener regeneration cycle will be insufficient and the water conditioner will not adequately reduce water hardness.
How much brine do you use to regenerate water?
Anti-caking agents, binding agents, and the purity are all important factors to consider when choosing which salt to use. Brine solution is typically a 26% salt weight to water ratio. The 26% brine solution is then mixed with water upon entering the mineral tank and a 10-15% brine solution is what is used to regenerate the solution.
When does the water softener return to the brine tank?
In normal operation, after a water softener has completed its regeneration cycle it will have pumped water back into the brine tank so that water can dissolve salt to form brine to be ready for the next regeneration cycle.
When to add salt to a brine tank?
For most brine tanks, I recommend adding salt when the level of the salt goes below the level of the water or when the salt goes down to 1/3 the height of the brine tank. Fill your brine tank up to about 2/3 of the way up the tank and do not overfill your brine tank.
