How do you change a washing machine water shut off valve?
First shut off the water to the leaking water valve. Next remove the handle from the stem and then loosen and remove the packing nut. Remove the old washer and slide on the new one. Reinstall the packing nut, tighten lightly with a wrench (don’t over tighten at this or any other point) and reattach the handle.
How do you replace the water valve on a washing machine?
Next you need to release the water valve to allow you to replace it, in this case as follows. As you can see, on this particular washing machine, there are two screws that hold the water valve in place, one above the valve and one below it. Simply unscrew these two screws and the water valve will fall free.
What should I do when my washer inlet valve comes out?
At that point you should see a valve that will allow you to switch off and isolate the washing machine. Once that’s done unscrew the fill hose at the washing machine, it is advisable to have a bucket or suchlike and a few old towels handy as there will be residual water in the fill hose that will come out.
How do you change the solenoid on a washing machine?
In some cases it is possible to change only the solenoid, such as the one shown to the right, by squeezing the retaining lugs at the top of the coil, popping it off and putting a new one back on. This is handy where the original water valve is no longer available and suchlike but it does involve cannibalising one valve to repair another.
Can you test the valve on a washing machine?
Testing a washing machine water valve is a relatively simple process that can be done with an electrical meter, which we strongly recommend for testing most washing machine parts. On the image to the right you see a typical double or dual water inlet valve used in many washing machines.
How to replace the water valve behind the washing machine?
Unscrew the hose connecting the valve you need to replace to the washing machine, using adjustable pliers. Put a rag under the valve, open the valve and let the water drain into the rag.
Is it time to repair the shut off valve on my washing machine?
Shutoff valves for the hot and cold water supply to a washing machine can develop leaks over time. If you notice water drips on the wall or floor, it’s time to repair one or both valves.
How does a solenoid valve work in a washing machine?
Each port is controlled by a solenoid valve that sends electric power to open and close the flow of hot and cold water based on settings for the wash temperature and signals from the water-level switch.
How do you connect the water supply to a washing machine?
When connecting the water supply hoses, you can usually screw them in by hand, but use mole grips if you have trouble. Don’t overtighten. Screw the water supply hoses to the connections on the back of the washing machine. The hoses and connections may indicate whether they are for hot or cold water.
