Can you convert an LP hot water heater to natural gas?
Although you can convert furnaces, cooking ranges, etc. from propane to natural and vice versa, unfortunately, you can’t convert water heaters. If they’re manufactured for propane, that’s the only fuel that can be used with them.
Can you convert a LP dryer to natural gas?
yes you can. Propane comes in at a higher pressure than natural gas. The natural gas orifice will let too much propane through and throw a flame large enough to run up the back of your dryer and possibly out the mesh vent into where your clothes are drying (and frying any sensors along the way).
What happens if you run a natural gas water heater on propane?
On the other hand, running natural gas through an appliance designed for propane will result in an undersized flame – or no flame at all – which will render the appliance unable to perform its desired function.
Can you run propane in a natural gas stove?
If you use propane on a natural gas stove, the flame will be too large. This is because the orifice jet for natural gas is considerably larger than the one used for propane. This can lead to burn injuries, damage to your stove and home, and even lead to death if it caused an explosion.
Are natural gas and propane dryers the same?
Gas dryers are factory-equipped for natural gas. Most gas dryers can be converted for Liquid Propane (LP) gas, which requires an optional conversion kit. Commercial dryers convert the same as retail models. The conversion instructions are included with the LP kit, which is purchased separately if one is needed.
Can a propane water heater be converted to natural gas?
Conversion of Gas Water Heaters The conversion of LP gas (Propane) to Natural gas is ONLY allowed providing: The conversion is done as part of a gas utility’s program where propane appliances were installed anticipating the completion of natural gas service to the area.
How to convert a gas appliance from LP to natural gas?
Typically the conversion between fuels requires simply the rotation, inversion, or adjustment of parts already present on the gas appliance. See GAS APPLIANCE CONVERT REGULATOR NATURAL GAS-to-LP for details. from gas leaks. See CONVERT the GAS ORIFICES for complete details.
Who is responsible for a water heater conversion?
The conversion must be done under the direct supervision of the utility and by their service representatives. Claims of damage or injury arising from the unauthorized conversion of any A.a. Smith water heater not design certified for conversion will be the complete and total responsibility of the person or entity making the conversion.
What happens when you run LPG through a natural gas heater?
The same thing that happens any time you run LP through any natural gas burner, you get soot and carbon monoxide. Natural gas AKA methane requires a richer by volume air:fuel ratio as compared to LPG

What’s the difference between natural gas and LP gas?
Natural gas and LP gas do not use the same orifice sizes to achieve the appliance’s designed BTU rate at the burner (s). Just changing pressure won’t do it and is dangerous. The manufacturer may refer to these parts as “spuds” or “orifices” or “metering jets”.
