MT Energy sent me a torn check ... Is this a scam? 3

I'm not an energy customer, but they sent me a discount check. The letter said:

Under our Guaranteed Savings Plan, Amt Energy offers customers at least one percent less savings than Con Edison for this service. Our analysis of your sws account shows that it is activated ...

Then below is a check for more than 40. Is this really a check?

When you switch to them, they can be perfect for your first LL. There is usually a problem. Read the best print.

I agree with Post P. Read the fine print carefully. Normally, by cashing a check, you agree to transfer your services to MT, and this usually applies to a 23-year contract that cannot be revoked without penalty.

This sounds like a scam where your identity card has been stolen. If this is not a scam then they are trying to keep you in touch with the utilities and the checks will only help you in new business. I own a Swedish company and Amt Energy is not on the list of approved companies.

Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either.
AMT Energy / 526 Multi Level / Network (MLM):
Long distance providers like MCI, Sprint, AT&T have done just that in the age of cell phones - they give you a nice check in the mail and it's on line when you sign / cash. Your company will hand you over to them from your old supplier. Google your existing and recently discounted utility and find comparisons and complaints. This is questionable.
The only way to get a check is if you are a customer.
